Living in Italy John developed a love of all things Italian. Venice cast its spell with the seeming contradiction between antique permanence and decay. The crumbling plaster, brick, ironwork and masonry, all reflected in the beauty of magical watery illusion, perfectly attuned to the medium of watercolour.
